The brief.

Artist Luke Embden was commissioned to create a bespoke window installation for independent bookshop Jaffe & Neale , celebrating the paperback release of Is A River Alive? by Robert Macfarlane.

Located in the market square in Chipping Norton, the shop gave Luke complete creative freedom to produce a striking mural inspired by the themes and artwork of the book. His vision was to create layers of depth, movement and colour using a combination of transparent and opaque self-adhesive films, all hand-cut and carefully applied.

To achieve the desired effect, Luke needed a selection of specialist materials in varying tones of blues and greens, including transparent and opaque films that would interact with the natural light throughout the day.

After discovering Dorotape, Luke contacted the team for advice and samples to help identify the most suitable materials for the installation.

The solution.

Working closely with Luke, we supplied a carefully selected mix of materials designed to achieve the layered, light-reactive finish he envisioned.

Materials supplied were:

• CT11383 Light Blue
• CT11381 Azure Blue
• CT11388 Apple Green

• M357 Matt Light Blue
• M358 Matt Olympic Blue
• M373 Matt Light Green

By combining transparent and opaque films, Luke was able to create a visually striking installation full of texture, colour and depth, while making the most of the sunlight passing through the shop windows.

The result.

The finished display transformed the bookshop frontage into a vibrant piece of artwork, with colourful reflections and shadows changing throughout the day as the light moved across the installation.

The project is a great example of how specialist self-adhesive films can be used creatively to turn a shop window into an engaging visual experience that captures attention both inside and out.
