With recent concern over the use of phthalates in the production of PVC, many larger companies and in particular, some of the major high street brands have expressed an interest in using only PVC FREE products.
These internationally recognised names must keep their share holders happy by being seen as being forward thinking and they do not want their brand image to be associated with polluting the environment.
How is PVC harmful to the environment?
PVC contains high levels of chlorine as well as phthalates, which are plasticizers, added to make the vinyl softer and more flexible. There have been health concerns over the use of phthalates for many years. The use of some phthalates have been restricted in the European Union for use in children's toys since 1999.
Those at high risk of exposure to phthalates are painters, printers and workers involved in the the manufacture, formulation and processing of plastics, where because of the heavy chlorine content, dioxins are released.
PVC FREE alternatives such as PP avoid the formation of dioxins such as hydrogen chloride and hydrochloric acid.
In response to this, we are proud to be launching a new range of PVC FREE media allowing you to choose environmentally friendly alternatives for digital printing & laminating, cad cutting and glass decoration.Specially formulated to give the best possible results using these inks
